Strategic Collaboration // 2026
Shimulimuli Company Limited @shimulimuli_co_ltd proud to collaborate with the Open University of Tanzania @open_univ_tz supporting experiential learning initiatives that strengthen practical education.
Through this collaboration, Shimulimuli is serving as the service provider in the establishment of a Digital Museum initiative aimed at collecting, preserving and showcasing Tanzania’s rich cultural and tourism heritage using modern digital technologies.
"The Open University of Tanzania @open_univ_tz has allocated approximately TZS 70 Million to sponsor participating students across Tourism, Journalism and Public Relations programmes."
During a mid-evaluation meeting held on February 27, 2026 in Morogoro, stakeholders highlighted the importance of programmes that equip students with practical competencies aligned with the evolving demands of the labour market.
Through this forward-looking partnership, Shimulimuli Company Limited continues to support institutions that integrate technology, culture and education, contributing to the preservation of Tanzania’s heritage while empowering the next generation of professionals.
The partnership between the Open University of Tanzania and Shimulimuli Company Limited is the result of a strategic, evolving collaboration initiated in 2022. It began through a reference by Prof. Deus Ngaruko (then DVC Academic), who connected Shimulimuli’s cultural documentation efforts with the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS).
Under the guidance of the Dean of FASS and Dr. Maulid Maulid, the collaboration was formed to address the pressing danger of extinction facing local heritage. The university recognized that Shimulimuli’s innovative approach to media and digital archiving provided a perfect platform for students to gain practical, employable skills—moving beyond theoretical instruction to solve real-world challenges.
This led to the signing of a formal Memorandum of Understanding in July 2023 and a Service Level Agreement in September 2024, establishing the "Tanzania’s Traditional Culture Data Profiling Project."

"The project reflects a critical shift: from merely recognizing the risk of cultural loss to actively building systems that preserve, interpret, and sustain cultural knowledge for future generations."
The Industrial-University partnership with Shimulimuli is the result of a strategic collaboration evolving over nearly four years. It began in 2022 following a reference by Prof. Deus Ngaruko, who recognized the synergy between Shimulimuli’s cultural documentation efforts and the academic disciplines of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS).
The university was impressed by the innovation Shimulimuli demonstrated in documenting heritage through media platforms. This alignment supported a broader university transformation: shifting from theoretical instruction to equipping graduates with practical, employable skills. After a formal MoU in July 2023, a Service Level Agreement was executed in September 2024 to launch the "Tanzania’s Traditional Culture Data Profiling Project."
Today, the project serves as a living model of university–industry collaboration. It bridges the gap between theory and practice by embedding students directly within communities, combining academic research with professional digital production to preserve Tanzania’s rapidly disappearing rich cultural heritage.
